Boulder scientist to help with ‘Star Trek’ film

a22.jpgIt’s all about the details for television and movie producer extraordinaire J.J. Abrams. So for the new “Star Trek” film, Abrams is looking out the real thing, finding a Boulder space scientist to make sure his version of the last  frontier looks as valid as possible. Carolyn Porco, a planetary scientist and imaging team director at Boulder’s Space Science Institute, was asked by “Lost” and “Alias” creator J.J. Abrams — who is directing and producing next year’s “Star Trek” film — to perform as a scientific adviser. Porco was thrilled  and energized at the thought of working with the visual effects team on the movie,. She’ll be the planetary policewoman and make sure all the scenes are pragmatic. Abrams, who personally called Porco to ask help her help after he heard her speak at a lecture last year, started bringing up science-fiction movies during his pitch.
